Planning a trip to Normandy next summer and am looking at rental car options thru AutoEurope and (other sites) in Caen.
EuropCar appears to have the best rates but their recent reviews are decidedly mixed, with a number of them citing poorly serviced vehicles, lousy customer service, etc.
Curious to know if anyone here has any recent experience with EuropCar France in general, and EuropCar Caen in particular, before I commit to anything. TIA
Former Auto Europe employee here. Europcar is a good company and Auto Europe usually has an in-house rep from Europcar France working at their office. If anything goes wrong, Auto Europe will have your back. I have personally used Europcar in France through AE and had no issues.
One thing I have noticed is that car rental companies generally have really bad reviews, if you check them out on Google Maps for instance. I think generally for car rentals there is not much motivation to leave a review for a good experience and lots of motivation to leave a review for a bad experience.
I always use Europcar if available. Never a bad car, never bad customer experience. This includes returning the car with a few dings and never having a complaint or chargeback, and being able to return the car outside of office hours by simply leaving it in the parking lot with the keys in the glove compartment.
I have used Europcar Caen. The office is literally right across the street from the main entrance to the train station. Very convenient.
