Eurolines from Lyon to Chamonix

We will be in Lyon for 3 days in September, then have reservations for Chamonix. There seems to be track work going on, requiring 2 train changes/bus, so I have looked into Eurolines (service by Isilines) to Chamonix. The bus seems to take less travel time and is less expensive also.

I see I can order the bus tickets online from the USA, should I do this or perhaps go to the Gare Routiere at Perrache to buy them? I am thinking I will be able to save precious time in Lyon by doing it online from home, as I am concerned about going right to bus station to buy them on day of travel, finding the ticket booth, etc. as the bus leaves 6:50 AM.

We are senior citizens, fairly active and do travel light, but do not have energy like we used to have! I have two questions. With our bus leaving Lyon at 6:50AM - would it make sense to walk or take a taxi to Perrache from Place Celestins? It is a Saturday, I am thinking little traffic….but I am not sure if the 17 minute walk shown on Google Maps is reasonable with each of us having one small rolling suitcase and additional small bag. Also, if known, price of taxi.

Thanks so much for your help in advance. This is our 4th visit to this beautiful city…but we are not familiar with Perrache area or Eurolines.

You could also walk the short way to Bellecour and take the Metro to Perrache.

Try online first, if they have e-tickets. I would not normally buy bus tickets in advance, but the early departure time is a pretty good reason to do so. I would guess under 10 euros for the taxi ride with your luggage.

Thanks Laura, that was my thoughts about the tickets, and taxi also which at that early hour will drop us off right at the bus. Appreciate your help! And to Sam, thanks also but I was trying to avoid Metro with luggage!

It's a bit of a schlep from Place Celestins to Perrache. Without luggage during the day, I'd take the metro; given the hour plus the luggage, I'd take a taxi.
