Entry to France, health pass, train and Covid

As requirements continue to change given the dynamic situation with Covid, I wanted to see what the current ones are for folks entering from the US which is in the green zone.

As far as I understand, we need to show our CDC vaccine card (we're fully vaxxed and got the booster in December) but not sure whether there's any forms to fill up and if we still need to get the health pass to enter museums, restaurants and other tourist related establishments.

If we we spend 3 days in Paris and plan to visit a lot of the attractions some by foot some by trains, which type of train card should we get? We're also still figuring out whether or not to take the train or cab from the airport to Louvre area and also to Versailles.

Lastly, we'd like to get a sense of how the Covid situation is at present in Paris. I saw that cases are picking up again but wondering if people are exercising more vigilance, wearing masks, social distancing, less crowds because of it despite some restrictions being lifted recently.

Thanks in advance!

Your airline will tell you what forms you need to fill out. I'm traveling in 3 weeks and I'm waiting to see if anything changes before I fill anything out. You might have to fill out the Passenger locator form which the Flight Attendants will hand out on the plane. Make sure you've got a writing implement - pen or pencil. I'm flying Delta and have not had 100% success with loading stuff to their FlyReady app so I am just going to check in at the airport like I normally would.

The Desk agent for your airline will look at your passport and your vaccine card. When you get to France the Immigration official will look at your passport and may want to see your vaccine card.

You do not need a Health Pass or Vaccine Pass to enter museums, restaurants or anywhere else at this time.

I would not get a "train card". If you want to get a Navigo Easy which is for the Metro you can. That's a card onto which you electronically load Metro trips. It takes the place of the paper tickets used before although I think for a while longer you can still get the one-use paper tickets. If you are going to Versailles go to the Metro station nearest you and see if there is a manned booth. Ask for tickets to Versailles and back.

From the Airport, I always get a cab. After passing thru Immigration, picking up my luggage, walking thru Customs and out the exit door, I walk out the door marked TAXI and get in line for the cabs. The manager of the line will wave you to a cab when you get to the front. I have the name and full address of my hotel typed out and taped to an index card so I can just hand that to the driver to put into his GPS. It will cost you 52E (flat rate) for the trip in to town on the Louvre side of the River. Many take the train in to town...I'm just not going to fool with that after an overnight flight and with luggage.

Have a terrific time! I walk a lot in Paris too!

Hi Pam,

Many thanks for your very helpful and thorough response. It's exactly how I like my questions answered. I'll follow all of your advice.

We will land on Mar. 31 at 7 AM EST. Hope the process doesn't take too long to get out of CDG airport.

Also curious as to what people's experiences are in Paris now given the current Covid situation.

You are welcome! You can see I’ve been doing a walkthrough in my mind, hahaha.

And I see my fingers were not listening to my brain. The flat rate for a taxi to the Right Bank is 53€ not 52.

By the way, I’ll be wearing an N95 all the time for my trip even if others are not. I’ve just started packing and have enough masks for every day in the outside pocket of my suitcase.

Hi angeli_angel,

Sounds like you are prepared! I land Mar 30th at 8am, so also hoping things go smoothly. I filled out the forms on the Delta site, and "should" be set, but ready for any changes. Make sure to bring some rain gear! looks like we are getting rain next week.

I have been in France for a week. No one has asked for my vaccine card either in the airports or anywhere else. I did not upload anything in Delta’s Verifly system or anywhere else. I would definitely take your CDC card with you because it seems possible you might have to show it somewhere.

The only form I filled out was the passenger locator form that was handed out on the plane.

We got through immigration at CDG in no time at all. Just handed them my passport and they stamped it and sent me on my way. The line was very short. (We arrived in early afternoon.)

We took the RER-B train from the airport to the Latin Quarter. You can buy your tickets when you get there. It’s about 10.5 Euros. Very easy.

No one in my hotel wore a mask. In the one museum I went to everyone wore one. Everyone had them on the RER and on the train to Colmar. Outside, some people wore them but not many. We were mostly outside the two days we were in Paris.

I’d say I’ve seen more masks in Alsace than I did in Paris. We have decided to wear them inside whether they are required or not. We don’t wear them outside. We have avoided crowds so it doesn’t seem necessary.
