entering notre dame for worship

Hello!

We are going to Paris tomorrow and planning to go to Notre Dame Sunday evening when we arrive. I think I read somewhere that if you are going for worship, you enter somewhere other than the line? We are planning on Vespers at 5:45 (does that count?) and mass at 6:30... if we can stay awake! :)

Anyone done this? Thanks!

When I was there, there was a sign that said "worshipers" at one of the doors separate from the line, I think they put that sign up before a service. I've also heard that you can just go up to one of the guards/security people and tell them you're there for the service and you can go ahead in. They are pretty amenable to people who are there for religious reasons.

Same door, just ignore the line and go straight to the entrance.

Most of the people in line before the vespers service will be waiting to go to vespers so trying to bully one's way to the head of line might not be well received. Same with holiday services.

There is usually a sign that says "MESSE" (Mass) on the left door. Just go inside and take a seat up front so you can hear Mass. I'd recommend going early for Vespers.
Your bags will be subject to a quick security search, so leave any sharp objects back at the hotel.

Thanks Chexbres, that's the sign I was talking about, and yes I do remember it was in front of a door on the left of the normal entry door where the long line is.

OK thanks! I will keep an eye out and if it's there I will use the Mass entrance, but if not, I won't push ahead of people, we will just wait.

Thanks!

Hi all!

Thanks for the advice! We arrived at 5:30pm, saw the Messe entrance, walked right up and in, past the line! We walked down one side of the church before entering the roped area at 5:40pm for vespers at 5:45. We stayed for mass, walked the other side of the church after that (around 7:40) on the way out. Worked great, and was really beautiful. Thanks for the help!
