end of trip question : last night in Paris

about 6 weeks away form our 8 night trip to France. after 5 nights in Paris staying in the Latin quarter, we will take the train to spend two nights in Bayeux, we plan to take the train back to Paris( arrive mid afternoon) for one last night before heading to the airport for our noon flight back to the states.
Should we just get a hotel close to the train station that we can walk to or get one closer to the airport? best way to get to the airport in the morning?

Thanks . Love this forum.

When do you want to get to the airport and how early do you want to wake up? I would stay at the airport hotel so I could sleep more, finish packing and eat breakfast without worrying as much about the time. Plus if you leave during the week you might be fighting commuters taking the train. The airport hotel will probably cost more but....

For a noon flight, I think I'd want to stay at an airport hotel--don't forget that you need to get there ~3 hours ahead of your flight, so 9 a.m., and allow at least an hour to get there from Paris, and it will be rush hour. The airport hotels, in my experience, are usually cheaper than the ones in the heart of the city.

I believe you could store your bags at the train station for the afternoon/evening if you wanted to enjoy a last evening in Paris before heading to the hotel by taxi or RER the night before.

If you were already in your Latin Quarter hotel, I'd say you should stay there another night. But since you already need to check into another hotel, I'm another vote for an airport hotel. The Sheraton is super convenient, particularly if flying out of T2. We're staying at CitizenM next month, but we're flying out of T3 (at 7:00 am!) and it's a quick walk from there.

We had an afternoon flight (3:30pm) out of CDG last May, so we spent our last night in Paris proper in the 9th, so we could have one last coffee and breakfast at the place we loved during our trip, and dropped by a deli and bakery for our return flight.

Took a cab at four hours until our flight left, had plenty of time, probably could have done three hours before.

For a morning flight I would have dinner in Paris and then head for the airport after dinner; you can store luggage at gare du nord and then take the RER B to the airport. There are many hotels at the REr B station at the airport. We use the Novotel when we do this.

Better would be to do Bayeux early in the trip and finish in Paris and then take a cab to the airport in the morning

If you have an afternoon flight then stay in Paris near an RER B station and take the train to the airport in the morning.

Yes. Turns out I was wrong. We don’t leave till 3:30 pm. So looking at staying close to the train station (the one from Normandy) , and going in the morning..
Will look up RER B station.

You don't want to stay near St. Lazare the train station. to Normandy unless you are taking a cab as it is very awkward to get from there to CDG by train -- so stay by Gare du Nord or St. MIchel/NOtre Dame or Luxembourg RER stations and then take the train in the morning.

I agree with Janet. The RER B3 to CDG runs north through Luxembourg, St-Michel, Chatelet, and Gare du Nord. Lots of good hotel choices near those stations. I'd stick with the left bank but you may want to spend thee evening and night elsewhere since you'll have already stayed in the Latin quarter. You can enjoy the last morning in Paris and head for the airport around midday.

Au contraire. It is simple to get from Gare Saint-Lazare to CDG. Just walk 7 minutes to the Paris Opera Garnier, and take the RoissyBus. 13€ per person, easy-peasy, and no stairs, escalators or changes. Don't do the metro/RER schlep. That is needlessly complex and difficult (particularly with much luggage). Unless you like the smell of urine and missing the sights or Paris going to/from the airport. I usually stay in a hotel half-way between this train station and Opera Garnier for this reason when going to/from Normandy.

good point -- I never think of the Roissy Bus -- but if you are near St. Lazare, that would probably be convenient if it is running at the time you need.

My husband and I are doing something similar in September: we will be in the 5th for nine nights, then in Lyon for three nights and back to Paris for two nights at the Hotel Relais Montmartre. We decided that we always give Montmartre short shrift with approximately 1/2 day. This time won't be long, but at least we'll have one full day and one half after arriving from Lyon. I'm hopeful that by being in the 18th, the trip to CDG won't be long since we aren't driving through Paris to get there. Our flight is at 1:10 and we'll want to be at the airport by 10:00. It seems that you have a very nice cushion of time before your 3:30 flight. Why not spend the night before in Paris?
