We're spending about 2-1/2 weeks in Southern France. We will have been in Ste. Paul de Vence, and along the Mediterranean. We have approximately 8 days left and want to stay in the area around Carcassonne (staying in Caunes/minervois), the Dordogne and Bordeaux regions. We are minor "foodies" and wine lovers and also want to see one or more of the caves. We need advice as to how to divie up the time left. we plan to drop the car in Bordeaux or Limoges and take the train back to Paris. thanks much
So you have 8 days (or 8 nights) to "play" with, which includes the night before your departure, which you'll want to spend in Paris. And you'll need to get from Provence to Carcassonne / the Dordogne / Bordeaux.
You could easily spend all or most of your 7 (or so) nights any any one of those locations, especially the Dordogne. I would suggest that you pick two of the three locations, and if you like wine, then include Bordeaux. The Dordogne, IMHO, is more beautiful that the Carcassonne area, has more variety, more to do (especially caves and other prehistoric stuff, as well as lots of castles), so I would pick that over the Carcassonne area, which I have also been to.
If you go to the Dordogne, the most convenient way to return to Paris is to drive to Brive and take the train from there.
thank you for the info. We would not have known about Brive so will check that out. I hate to sound dumb but what is IMHO? We actually have another two days of our trip which we plan to spend in Paris so we are not that rushed. If you have Any other tips or suggestions, we'd appreciate it. Thanks again!
IMHO = in my honest opinion
And this one sometimes crops up, too:
YMMV = your mileage may vary
