Emailing Credit Card Info to Make a Hotel Reservation

Hi,
I'm concerned about emailing credit card information to a hotel in order to make a reservation.
I want to stay in a hotel in Nice, France that is recommended by the RS guide. I emailed the hotel through the site and they replied very quickly saying I needed to send my credit card information and expiry date by email within 2 days of their response.
Just for the sake of caution, I called the hotel a few minutes ago (long distance from the West Coast!) and spoke to their reception desk.

The lady said their policy was to have the credit card information sent by email message and they couldn't take the information over the phone.
Is this okay?
As a solution, I sent the information separated into multiple email messages but is this any more secure?

Joanna, I have emailed cc info in 2 separate emails just as you have done and had no problems. I checked my cc account regularly for a few weeks just to make sure there wasn't anything else going through but never had any problems.

I also email mine in 2 separate emails for security. I have done this several times over the past 7 or so years and have never had a problem.

Be it phone, fax, web or email there is no 100% safe way to send cc numbers..which is why you are protected from fraudulent use. Lots of scams come from low-tech schemes like rifling through the garbage/recycling, stealing mail, or a dishonest clerk simply writing your number down on a piece of paper and selling it to a criminal group.

For me sending cc numbers in a single email is good enough.

I agree with Michael, I've emailed my cc info in a single email several times, never had an issue; which is not to say it doesn't happen because I know it does, in many other ways not just email.

I have had to do it myself.. to Spain and France.. both time I used two emails.. but as others say.. its likely not an issue if you sent it in one.

If someone can hack the hotel's email, or your email, wouldn't they be able to retrieve both messages? So, I guess there's really no reason to split CC info into two emails from a security standpoint.

Email is hackable, but despite that risk, I have also emailed by credit card details to hotels many times, counting on the fraud protections that the bank offers, and without any issues that I knew to be related.

I have emailed my credit card info numerous times to reserve hotel rooms. So far, I have not had any problems. I also rely on the fraud protection offered by the credit card companies in case something happens.
