Greetings! We r staying 5 mins from the Eiffel tower and we need to get to Charles du Gaulle. RER or taxi ? It looks like we can take RER C to St. Michel/ Norte - Dame and then change to the Blue line to the airport. We will have carry on luggage so I am sure this is doable. My question is " once we arrive at the airport is it easy enough to find your airline (in our case air france) ?
Or is it better to take a taxi and be dropped off at Air France. Thank you in advance.
I am sure it is doable on the RER and you will get differing opinions from folks here.
My tactic is to take a taxi that I ask the hotel the night before departure to arrange. It just lowers my stress level to know that I will be dropped off at the door to my correct terminal. You do need to figure out which terminal you need to go to for either mode of transportation. I flew out Tuesday AM and was picked up 10 minutes early at 620. By 715 I was checked in, bag dropped and thru security. Yes, I had copious amounts of time on my hands but managed to walk 5,000 steps in Terminal 2E and have breakfast before my flight departed. It is more expensive to take a taxi but I figure just figure that in my budget ahead of time.
Have fun!
Yes, the RER "C" line to St-Michel/Notre Dame, then the "B3" to the airport. Two "B" lines go north, make sure you're on the one that goes to CDG. If your connections are good, you might well get there ahead of a taxi, depending on time of day and traffic. But you will have to handle the luggage. The RER will also cost a lot less than a taxi unless you're a party of 4 or more, then it's closer to a break-even situation.
Paris by Train has a description of this RER trip. Most likely you'll want Terminal 2 if your flight is transatlantic, but it's a huge multi-part terminal. If you haven't found your terminal and gate number online the night before, look for your flight on one of the departure boards. Allowing three hours between arrival at the airport and your flight time should give you ample time to find everything you need and do all you need to do.
Thank you both for your input. We are staying in an apartment so I was not sure how to get a taxi BUT we found a taxi stand about a block away....so we decided to leave with minimal effort and flag a cab :). Also, thanks for the tip on checking the airport out online. Why did I not think of that.....I think i must have traveler fatigue. thank you again!
Taxi. Much easier when hauling your luggage to the airport.
I would not depend on getting a taxi at a taxi stand for a trip to CDG. Taxi G7 has an English Language Line: +33 (0)1 41 27 66 99. Be outside 5 minutes before the agreed upon time and expect an amount on the meter for the approach fee.
Jhk, I am confused by your reply. Are you saying only some taxi go to the airport? We were planning on catching a taxi in front of the Pullman hotel. I am sure other people must catch a taxi there to return to the airport. If that fails we will just walk back to the rer and go from there. Our flight is at 1:40 and we need to vacate the apt by 9 30 so we should have lots of time.

The stand in front of the Pullman may have taxis available. All taxis would go to CDG. My concern was about showing up at a taxi stand and finding none there and then having a timing problem to get to CDG.
We stayed near the Eiffel tower last month and flew home via Air France from CDG. The airport is the busiest one I have seen. Here's some tips that helped us. First give yourself more than enough time. With some traffic it took us an hour to get there. We took Uber from our hotel. It was 50 euros. The taxi rate was 65. Just know which terminal you need to go to because they are not close to each other and you want to be dropped off at the right one. I downloaded the Air France app on my iphone and it was really handy to have our boarding passes on my phone because everyone asks to see them. Their apps puts them on the lock screen. So helpful! Also, make sure your electronics are fully charged before boarding. They were very strict about this. I didn't know, but mine were fully charged. One man's were not and he was sweating bullets. They have charging stations at the gate, but it takes awhile.
Linda, I agree with all of your suggestions. We did take a taxi however and our fare was just under 50 euros. May depend on the time of day you are traveling, traffic etc. I think we were at our terminal in about 45 minutes. And yes, the airport is huge and busy. We allowed plenty of time. The only glitch we had was our boarding passes were on our phone (we have androids, Samsung 4) and some of the readers would not read the bar codes. We could not do the self check for our luggage for this reason, so we had to stand in line for the self check and then we could not use it so we had to stand in another line for someone to check us in. We had allowed plenty of time so it wasn't a big deal. Thinking back, we arrived at terminal 2, checked our bags, went through security, etc. and then we had to take a metro sort of thing to our gate. Biggest airport I have ever been in!
