As I am sure has been experienced by many, I visited the Eiffel tower website the day tickets for my desired date became available only to have all of the tickets to the top sold out (60 days in advance). Tickets to the 2nd floor are still available. Does anyone have any experience with purchasing second floor tickets, and then trying to upgrade them ahead of time or on the day of? I don’t want to completely miss out, but I’m really not sure how to plan on getting to the top if tickets sell out so quickly in advance.
I don’t have any experience with trying to upgrade, but I can tell you that the second floor provides a wonderful experience that will not disappoint you. I’ve been to the top and I didn’t find that it was hugely better than the second floor. My husband actually did not like going all the way to the top because of the way the elevator slants. Point being, I would go ahead and buy the second floor tickets before they sell out so at least you get to go at all.
I can really recommend Fat Tire bicycle tours! Bought their combo tour for bicycles, Eiffel Tower tour with summit and a ticket for river cruise. The bicycle tour was fun, with a break in the middle for a cafe lunch ( your own purchase). It ended at the office, then our tour guide Toby walked us over and went up to 2nd level. Lots of great information, when we were ready, he helped us find the line for the summit elevator and then he was done. Went up and we stayed as long as we wanted. The cruise was any day or time of your choosing, we went several days later.
apparently now the major individual tickets are released 7 days out. I'd be on line at midnight Paris time 7 days out and then keep looking as it approaches 9 am in Paris. Many people are reporting success at this point as fewer tickets are being released 60 days out. (and FWIW the management of the ET right now is terrible; we waited 70 minutes to get on the elevators with timed tickets while they were feeding people who were buying tickets on site into the front of the line. In the past usually those with reservations used a separate leg of the Tower and you could be on the elevator within 15 minutes of your time slot.)
I can also highly recommend Fat Tire Tours. We just did Eiffel Tower - 2nd level and summit. You can just get tickets for the Eiffel Tower through them you don’t have to combine. Meet at their office, they walk you over, you go right up to 2nd level no line with great info (headset) then they help you get in line for summit level. You can spend as much time as you want after the tour on your own. Their tickets also sell out so get on their website and check them out if you want to use them.
the reason everything is selling out is because of 3rd party vendors.
more tickets will be released, and you can buy them day of.
