Has anyone been up the Eiffel Tower in December? Of course I know it will be cold but is there a possibility it would be too cold to enjoy? I understand weather is not predictable but as it’s December it’s likely to be cold and perhaps rain. Thanks all!
Too cold to enjoy how?
Climbing it? Views?
Meaning would it be an uncomfortable experience if it’s really cold, rainy, windy, etc. Maybe I’m overthinking it. We will obviously be dressed appropriately. Not sure which ticket we will buying yet, second floor or top. I was actually considering walking up, I think it would be a nice challenge for my husband and me. However taking steps then lift to top means I can only buy the day of according to website. I’m not interested in waiting on a long line. I guess just making sure we have the right clothing is the most important thing.
For me unless it was a typhoon I’d not miss the opportunity to visit it.
I love that Claudia. Thank you for all of your help with my London and Paris trip planning.
At the top, there are actually two levels. One is enclosed with windows, so maybe a bit warmer and protected from rain.
And if you buy the ticket to ride all the way to the top, you still have the option of taking the stairs down from the first or second level to have that experience, too. We were there on a nice day in June, but I've read that the stairs can be slippery when it rains.
There is no long line for tickets to walk up to the second level. I would not bother if I could not get tickets to the top -- (you can get that elevator when you buy the stair tickets if the top if open). At the very top, the first level is enclosed and the very top is reached by stairs and is open. Whether you are comfortable on a cold or rainy day is about you and not the Tower. We went on a rainy day in October and quite enjoyed it:

If you plan to climb the stairs, you can of course just wait till a day when the weather feels right to you. It is probably a bit risky to buy in advance that time of year. We bought in advance for October and Oct 5 that year was literally the only day that whole month when it poured rain. We had the tickets. We went up; it was fine.
Be aware that if the temperature is too low (below freezing?) you could be limited to just the first level. It happened to us one time in late December or early January when we were there for New Years. I’m not sure how often it happens and we were there at a particularly cold time. Over our two week trip the absolute warmest it got was 33 degrees F.
Andrea makes a good point. The Tower may restrict levels. When we were there April 9 the top was closed; supposedly due to weather but the weather was fine. A bit windy; there had been rain -- but nowhere near as miserable as the day in October we went up to the top in the rain. By the time we were through the long lines (we had reserved tickets and it still took 70 minutes to the elevators) and made it to the second floor, the top was open again so we could go up.
Again -- at that time of year make your decision last minute.
We visited the Eiffel Tower in December 2016. The weather the week we were in Paris (Christmas week) was in the mid-50s and was too warm for my winter coat! We walked up to the 2nd level and enjoyed it immensely. We are returning this year for Christmas in Paris! I'd like to go to the 2nd level on Christmas Eve and will try to get tickets from home for @ one hour before sunset to enjoy the views (if weather permits) and also view after dark. RS recommends the 2nd level for the best views, but the tiptop sounds exciting. We'll probably take a Seine cruise with Vedettes de Paris which he also recommends (just received his new "Paris" book). It's below the Eiffel Tower and does not require advance tickets. The last time we took a box of macarons on board which we had purchased on the 2nd level of the ET and munched as we cruised.
In short, I would not let December stop me from the Eiffel Tower. I hope you have a marvelous time.
