If I have 8 pm tickets for the summit of the Eiffel Tower how early can I get in line for the 1st elevator? Would that be the elevator to the 2nd floor? Where do you get to go when you are first admitted after showing tickets? How early could I access that?

I'd suggest arriving at least 30 minutes prior to your ticket time since you'll need to go through security first.
If your ticket is for 8pm, that's the time you'll be allowed to go on the elevator to the second level, then you'll wait in another line (at the second level) to get up to the summit.

Once you go through security, you'll be in the area under the tower, and I believe you can access that area at anytime during opening times.
When we were there last June, we arrived over an hour prior to our ticket time, but we were not allowed to get in line for the elevator till the time printed on our tickets.

Get there early as the security lines are long. I would say at least 30 to 45 minutes. Once you pass the first security checkpoint,you will be inside the fences or under the tower. There will be another line to get in. They will allow you to get in that second line right at 8 pm. So you may be actually going up around 8:15 or so as this is another security check point where you pass a metal detector and they X-ray any bags/purses you have.
