I was hoping to go up just before dusk, but I waited too long to get tickets. So, now my only options are daytime or 2100. Which would be better? Daytime you can see the city sites. Nighttime you would get the lights. ???
Our scheduled time to visit the ET was 9:30 at night......I was afraid it was going to be awful since it would be dark.....this was July......but it turned out to be great. The lights came on in the tower and it was magical. After the visit I was glad it turned out so well!
We have done it both ways. You can see my night (in the rain) snapshots here.

Even in the rain we preferred it at night. Afterwards walk across the river to Trocadero for the best view of the Tower sparkling on the hour. As you can see the views of Paris landmarks from the Tower is spectacular at night.
@Janet, great photos of your night time visit in the rain and clouds. Thanks for sharing. ptlovesot, I prefer dusk also, but one of my visits was a cloudy day when it snowed and that, too, was magical.
I have been up the Eiffel Tower three times. Each time I went at a different time. I much prefer going at dusk and watching the lights come on in Paris. The last time we went up at dusk and a storm rolled in. There was a lot of lightening, but because the storm was fast moving, they didn’t evacuate the tower. I will never forget the lightening in the sky over Paris. Unfortunately, I could never time my pictures to coincide with the lightening. What really surprised me was that we didn’t get wet on the second level from the rain. The wind was blowing the rain at such an angle from the West, we just got on the East side of the Tower and the Tower sheltered from the rain.
I think you will find that this applies to commercial use.
