How much earlier do we need to get to the tower if we have a 4:30pm ticket for early Dec. How long can you stay up at the summit for? Is it timed? Thank you.

There are no time limits (except whenever it actually closes) once on the Tower.
Perimeter security is fairly speedy, but when we did this a year ago with afternoon timed tickets we stood in line for 70 minutes to get on the elevator. I think this was a particularly badly handled day. But you will be in a line with other people in your time slot and so being closer to the front of that line is a value. I'd probably aim for 45 minutes ahead of my time slot. You can then immediately head to the top when you get to the second floor or you can enjoy that floor and then head up later. One way to decide is to take a look at the line for the top -- and if it is short hop in and if it is long maybe come back in half an hour and see how it is then.
