Eiffel Tour at Sunset

We want to go up to the top of the Eiffel Tower at Sunset in June. But when I look for tickets online, the available times are way too early. (We'd like to go up about 9pm as sunset is nearly 10pm). However, there are tickets available to the 2nd floor. In Steve's book, he mentions that you can upgrade your ticket to the top once you are at the second floor. Has anyone tried this? During the summer? Are we guaranteed to be able to get an upgrade to the top once we are on the second floor? How much time should we allow for this?

Well, you're never actually guaranteed to be able to go to the top, it's very weather dependent and also the amount of people up there is controlled to some extent. However, you should normally be able to go up from the 2nd level if conditions permit. How long to allow for waiting for elevators on the 2nd level is anybody's guess. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful than that. I hope you get more helpful answers from others.

It can still take a bit of time to reach the top. 2014 my ticket time was for 17:30, it took about an hour to process through the line, up the elevator to the 2nd level & wait in the line to get on the elevator to the 3rd level. Try and get the 20:00 time frame, then enjoy your time up there until the sun sets. This May 29th its sets around 21:45, so I got the 20:00 time slot and will just wait for the magic to unfold.

Hi Sam, just get the latest slot you can and then wander around until sunset. There is a snack bar and (very small) gift shop on the second level where you could spend some time. Once you're on the Tower, you can stay as long as you like. Hope you have a great visit!

We booked an evening champagne river cruise that included tickets to the Eiffel Tower. It was perfect as we had a wonderful guide who gave us lots of information about Paris along the Seine, the Tower and Mr. Eiffel. I believe we were on the Tower at sunset -- we were there when the lights came on. This seemed the easiest way for me to book tickets for the Eiffel Tower rather than worrying what time I had to log on etc.
