We are planning to visit the Eiffel Tower in July at 14:00 but I noticed that 13:30 and 14:00 appear to be the last time slots to sell out. Is there a reason for this? Do they reach capacity in the afternoon and hold back visitors for a while. The tickets for July are not on sail but I do want to be ready when they are released.

Mike, it could simply be that those times interfere with lunch. I remember reading a comment to the effect that some Spanish museums have a bit of a dip in visitor levels during the lunch period.
But there might be something else going on, too, so it's smart of you to notice the pattern and question it.

When we were in Paris a few years ago (also in July) the last remaining time slot for advance online purchase was for 1430h, and that was no more than 30 seconds after that day's slate of tickets became available at official website. All other times' immediately went to not-available status as soon as you paged thru payment process. Makes you wonder if local tour companies have some arrangement in procuring the more sought after entry times (?). Even though early-afternoon wasn't our preferred time of day to visit ET, we took what we could get and were grateful that we were able to secure advanced tickets; as the queue for general admission stretched around and around the platform. Would estimate a 90-120 minutes' wait in that line just to buy a ticket, during mid-summer (midday) heat. So you're smart to keep a pulse on schedule, Mike. It's worth it, regardless of what time of day you end up going.

Mike factor in the 6 hour time difference when buying tickets. I set my alarm for 2:30 or 3:30 am to get tickets the day they went on sale for our upcoming trip😫
