Now that I have bought airline tickets into Provence (plans changed, now flying into Lyon, ideally plan to stay in Avignon but haven't made hotel arrangements), I need to arrange the next part of our spring 2019 trip. Is it better to get to the coast of France (either by plane or train), take a ferry to the UK & then another one to Isle of Wight? Or fly to somewhere in the UK & then the ferry to IOW? We want it all, cheapest & fastest (LOL). I've been searching the internet & get so confused as fare/schedules seem to change almost daily. I appreciate any help you can give me. --Debbie
Fly to Gatwick or Heathrow from Lyon or Marseille and then work your way from there is quickest
If you are travelling late May onwards, you could fly on Flybe from Avignon to Southampton, which would be much easier than via London, but this is only on their summer timetable.
Train - plane - train - ferry in one day is asking a lot from the transport gods to get this schedule aligned !
Yes, I would look into the chances of flying to Southampton. If you can't fly into Southampton, I'd suggest flying to London and staying overnight there before travelling to the Isle of Wight. From Southampton there are frequent ferry services to Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
