My husband and I will be staying for a few days in the 7th arrondissement . We would like some suggestions of places to eat there.
I would suggest looking at couple sites to get restaurant suggestions:
1. Paris by Mouth- they have reviews of various eating establishments, from casual to upper end.
2. David Lebovitz- check out his web site. Pastry chef who now lives in Paris. Great reviews and recommendations from someone who was in the restaurant business.
Since I don't know your tastes, budget, and food preferances, I think that you should check out those sites to find restaurants that meet your needs.
Have fun.
Hi Christine, the two sites David recommends are a good start. I found one of our favorite restaurants at David Lebovitz' site: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/paris/
We ate at Le Timbre, which is in the 6th on the close side to you of Luxembourg Gardens. I would encourage you to expand your search to outside of the 7th, even if just a little bit. There are great places to eat everywhere in Paris, but getting into just the 6th and 5th will greatly increase choices, not to mention getting across the river into the Marais and beyond. Between the Metro, buses and taxi's, it's easy to get around.
There's a small book called Eating and Drinking in Paris, by Andy Herbach, that is useful as well, with listings in different areas and price ranges, it also has a menu translator.
Enjoy!
Thank you so much for the suggestions. We will certainly expand into the surrounding areas for restuarants.
Yelp and Chowhound may help. http://www.thefork.com/city/paris/415144 has a useful search function. It is mostly user-generated and looks somewhat like Trip Advisor so you should read the reviews with not just a pinch of salt but a whole shaker. But its booking capability can be helpful, especially if your French is shaky on the phone.
Of course, that depends on your preferences and budget. The rue Saint-Dominique is a major "restaurant street" in that district. My favorites there would be the places owned by Christian Constant: Café Constant (the least expensive of his places, and my favorite), Les Cocottes, and Le Violon d'Ingres. Also in that street is La Fontaine de Mars, which is a traditional French bistro (Barack & Michelle ate there a few years ago). Another "restaurant street" is the rue de Monttessuy, which has a number of places to eat, including Il Sorrentino and Au Bon Accueil, as well as a wonderful Greek take-out (Magda) , an Italian deli, a Chinese restaurant, etc.

I've also had very nice meals at both Café Constant and Les Cocottes. Neither take reservations, but if you get there right at 7pm when they open, you should get a seat. They are very popular with both tourists and locals.
Rick's guidebooks that include Paris include a lot of restaurant listings around this neighborhood, near Rue Cler. A particular office favorite is Le P'tit Troquet at 28 Rue de l'Exposition. I also enjoyed the restaurant across the street, Billebaude, where a terrine of pheasant starter was served with a scoop of cepe/porcini ice cream.
With two recent visits to Paris. This is a great filled with locals place.
