Any recommendations for favorite places to eat in Nice and Marseille (all meals)? We'll be staying in Vieux Nice and in the Vieux Port area in Marseille.
We really enjoyed Restaurant Chez Madie Les Galinettes in Marseille (138 Quai du Port). Reserve ahead if you want their traditional bouillabaisse which I highly recommend! I noticed them acting somewhat cool and not speaking English with some "difficult" customers but they were friendly to us and continued to become warmer (and more English fluent) as our meal went on. Overall the whole experience felt very authentic and we would definitely go back. For more of a fine dining experience, Restaurant Peron (56 Promenade de la Corniche John Kennedy) is in a beautiful location overlooking the sea. Very locally seafood-focused as well.
Just returned from Marseille, where we also stayed at the Vieux Port area. We enjoyed lunch at Malthazar Brasserie Comptoir, 19 Rue Fortia; La Caravelle, 34 Quai du Port - for drinks and jazz; restaurant Le Relais 50, 18 Quai du Port - for dinner; and Casa Pietra - 8 Place Albert de Londres - for drinks outside. The interior is beautiful and the food looked great.
Highly recommend the bakeries that Rick mentions in his description of Marseille's North African Market area - Soleil d'Egypte and La Carthage.
Thank you all so much, I really appreciate your suggestions! I've added them all to my list :)
If anyone has any recommendations for places to have a quick breakfast in the Vieux Port area I would love them!
I don't dine out a lot in the evening when traveling, but I have had some good lunches/snacks. I had a wonderful (really really good) pizza for lunch one day in Nice at Le Milo's on the pedestrian street Rue Massena. Would definitely recommend it.
