Eating in Nice France

Will be visiting the Chagall Museum soon and would appreciate some recommendations for a good reasonably priced lunch near the museum. We will be taking the bus # 17 to and from the museum/ train station. Thanks to all ahead of time.

The Museum has a café. Or go to a farmer's market early in the morning and pack a small picnic or stop by a deli or a sandwich shop. The Museum is closed Tuesdays.

I've been to the museum, but don't remember the neighborhood that well. However, looking on Google Maps, I see within walking distance several restaurants (in addition to the one at the museum). They include Chez Mireille, Speedy Tacos (keep in mind a taco in France is not like a taco in North America), Planet Sushi Malausséna, Royal Kashmir, Hippopotamus (a French steak-and-burger chain popular with families), and two world-famous restaurants millions enjoy daily: KFC and McDonalds.

The museum is located in Cimiez area of Nice, below Matisse museum. Use Cimiez to death for restaurants near Chagall museum.

There is a dearth of restaurants in Cimiez, which is kind of surprising given it's status as an affluent neighborhood. The cafe in the Musee is actually separate and there is a very nice courtyard where I think they have seating. There is also a place called Cote Sud between the Matisse Musee and Chagall Musee, but I have not eaten there.

The path down the hill to the area around the station (that has the chains and a lot of non-French eateries and is more of a transitional neighborhood) is not direct and not exactly a common choice (it's heavily residential with hard to locate stairs to descend). It's walkable (downhill) but your restaurant choices get more limited (although very budget friendly) unless you actually go under the elevated highway and into the main centre.

Instead, I suggest you hop bus 15 and head down into the center. By the time you get to the Carabacel stop there are more choices, and then especially when the bus makes the right turn onto on Rue Gioffredo and as you approach the terminus at Galeries Lafayette. If you happen to need to take a late lunch, then get off at Defly and walk the two or three blocks to Place Garibaldi. Eat on the Place, or a place like Cafe de Turin at the edge of the old town. Do not fret about a return path, as you can hop the tram back to the station.

Note Bus 15 is the one that drops you off across the street from the Chagall, not the 17.
