Eating in Montparnasse

Will be staying in Montparnasse in November. Any suggestions for good but affordable places to eat in the area?

lc, when we stayed in Montparnasse at Hotel Lenox. we found this nearby side street that had several nice, affordable creperies about a block east of the Montparnasse tower complex. The street is Rue de Montparnasse (not to be confused with the much larger Boulevard de Montparnasse). We ate at two of these during our stay. Subsequently, we found that the street and/or creperies were mentioned in the RS guidebook, so he agrees. The one name I can come up with is La Creperie de Josselin, but there were several on the street that looked good.

I have stayed near Montparnasse Tower a couple of times. Here's a guide to the neighborhood which includes info on markets, sights, and restaurants.

One of my guilty pleasures is Leon de Bruxelles. It's a comfortable casual place for mussels. Yes, it's a chain but it's a chain of mussels restaurants! Also some gelato at Amorino.

There is a cafe that is moderate and has a wide menu

The crepe street Rue Montparnasse is off the star of streets near Edgar Quinet metro -- Josselin is excellent but I imagine the others are fine too. Blvd Montparnasse has the famous Paris Brasserie like Coupole and Rotonde which while not cheap are good places to eat. There are lots of small places in the area and all French restaurants must post menus so you can check them out and then check them out on line before making a choice. (for restaurants, reserve a day ahead for better service and to be sure of a table)

This is a great area with lots of dining options at all price levels.

You might try the newly opened Bouillon Chartier which like all boillon specializes in cheap food (assume it is pre-prepared). The one across town is excellent value and I have heard this one is too. Traditional dishes -- cheap -- no reservations.

Pam, Leon de Bruxelles is a guilty pleasure of mine as well!

Around Montparnasse there is a slough of restaurants for all tastes. The nearby Rue de Renne has some cafes and restaurants, too.

Oh, Leon de Bruxelles. Love that restaurant. Been to the one on Champs Élysées, and the one at Place de la Bastille. But I do love mussels. One year on a road trip through northern France, we ate mussels every day for 10 days. Heaven.

We enjoyed several dinners on rue Raymond Losserand near the Pernety station. There are a few blocks there with numerous nice restaurants -- no Michelin stars but fine for us. This was about nine years ago, I don't remember specific names. But it's not hard to find a good meal in Paris!
