Eastern France Tour

For those that have gone on the Eastern France tour, when did you go and how was your weather? Of course, weather is unpredictable, but I am seriously considering this tour and would like input from those that have been on this tour as to how the weather was when they went.

I can go at any time, so I am not bound to only certain months. I just want to make sure I try to go at a good time as opposed to having to go at a certain time of year.

Again, thanks all for your contined input. Valuable information is always obtained on this forum.

We went in midJune. The weather was a bit hot at that time. We went then because we wanted to add on 2 weeks at the end of the tour in the south of France to see the lavender in bloom in July. Mid to Late May might be a bit cooler.

I spent 2 weeks in eastern France, though after an RS Alpine tour, 2nd half of June, about 4 years ago. I was lucky, the weather was almost always sunny and it was warm but not hot. However, the first half of June, in the Alps, weather was pretty bad - too much rain and mostly cloudy.

This is my go-to website for weather. I think the default is Paris, but you can put in just about any town or city. Click the "weather" link, then "yesterday/past weather" and then choose the month you want. You can go back several years and see the actual weather conditions day by day.

I took this tour in May. I am glad I did - it was asparagus season in Alsace. Yum! Actually, it was slightly cool and rainy the days we were in Colmar. And because of the rain, the hotel we were in opened their restaurant especially to serve us one evening so we did not have to go trudging through any downpours. Fantastic memory and fabulous asparagus.

Weather got warmer the farther south we went, of course. I loved the variety and scope of this tour. Colmar, Chamonix, and Vaison-la-Romaine were my favorites. Makes me want to go again.

We went this year from May 27-June 9. Weather was quite pleasant. Light jacket or sweater in the mornings, usually no jacket by afternoon. Only place it was cool was on top of Mont Blanc, and even then it was quite tolerable for the time we were up there. Pretty much sunny to partly cloudy most days. Warmer down by Provence. My husband is heat sensitive and he said it was pleasant for him.

Only a couple of rain showers, usually late in the afternoon or early evening and didn’t last long. It did rain at one of the wineries where we were having lunch (supposed to be outside), but they had a nice indoor room where we ate instead. Hard to predict the weather but we felt this was a good time weatherwise (at least this year).

Hi Ann, we did this tour in mid-September. The weather was pleasant but variable. Temperatures ranged from 50 degrees in Chamonix (30 at the top of the Aiguille du Midi for an hour or two) to 90 degrees in Vaison-la-Romain. We loved this tour, hope you do too!
