We signed up for the Paris and Heart of France tour over Easter 2026 and are wondering if that is going to be too crowded and busy and if we should delay it a week or two. Understand that Paris is always crowded and busy, but want to maximize the experience. Thoughts?
Margaret, while Paris seems to be getting busier and more crowded every year, my concern over Easter would be Notre Dame. With special services during Holy Week and Easter there may be limited hours to visit the Cathedral. Add to that the increased crowds.
Personally, I would try to reschedule.
We were in Paris during Easter week in 2024. It was very busy and if I had a choice, I would have gone a week or 2 later. All the local schools are on holiday during that time + the UK schools are also out, so there were a lot of visiting school children. We did go to Versailles on the Sunday of Easter and had a lovely time, but again very busy during that time-frame.
Definitely not later. After Easter all the school groups from all over Europe take their special school trips to major sites all over Europe, and that means Paris. Go as early in the year as you can.
Most nice European destinations tend to be quite busy during and after Easter. We have enjoyed Paris mid-April, just before the holidays. The weather can be a bit touch and go.
That said, busy is a relative term in destination cities. Will the average person detect a swell of 10% or 20%. Probably not. I tend to plan the dates the work best for me and then deal with whatever is happening locally as a matter of course. We had a hoot in the Netherlands during Kings Day....The day leading up and the days following were noticeably different as was Kings Day. Easter much the same. I have spent Easter in Asia numerous times. It tends to be absorbed into the flow there. If you prefer to avoid Easter busyness, that might be a consideration. Unfortunately, this is too early for peak Durian season.
