Easiest way (with luggage) from Gare de Lyon to Montmartre

Hi, everyone~

We'll be coming from Avignon to Paris and our hotel (Hotel Apolonia) is in Montmartre. Looks like Lamarck is the closest metro station & we'll be arriving at the Gare de Lyon via train. What is the best way to get from the train station to the hotel?

We'll be at the end of our 3-week trip so I'm assuming we'll be tired and we'll have our bags (carry-on and personal items only...but taking a foldable extra just in case). What is the best way (on a budget so no town cars, please) between them. I have the SNCF app so I can figure out the logistics...just wondering about quality of life at the end of our trip.

Thanks in advance :)

hey hey Lisa
my quality of life means a lot and the best for me is take a taxi. the best euros i would have spent, enjoy ride to hotel, plop down and relax at hotel. (maybe 20E to 30E)

The easiest way would be to take an official Paris taxi straight to your hotel. You’ll be tired and stairs in the metro would be challenging with luggage. I assume there will be taxis at the train station but if not you can use the G7 app to request one.

Besides, by Metro you will have to make a connection at Madelaine from the No 14 to the No 12 line. Added complications.

The Lamarck Caulaincourt metro has an elevator from the platform to the surface. But to get to that metro line you probably have to transfer and that will almost certainly involve stairs. the 14 to Madeleine is itself accessible so the issue is the transfer between the 14 and the 12 at Madeleine. I don't know how many stairs are involved there but if you can manage luggage on a couple of flights of stairs that is a possibility. Otherwise get a taxi from the oficial queue at Gare de Lyon. Make sure the meter is running.

Another vote for a taxi from the rank outside the station.

If you really want to do public transportation you can either do Metro 14 to 12 or Metro 1 to 12 exiting Lamarck - Caulaincourt.
I think this is a perfectly acceptable solution except for the hassle of the luggage in the metro.

It will be 2.5e a person and you'll need to get a Navigo Easy card if you don't already have one or use the app on your phone.
You'll want this if you're going to be Paris anyway but it's better to get one when you're not hassling with luggae.

Google maps works fine for Metro and bus routes in Paris and CityMapper is the next level app if you want more.

Enjoy Paris!

Thank you, everyone. Looks like taxi is the preferred option.

@cathybert, To identify an official Paris taxi, look for an illuminated "Taxi Parisien" sign on the roof, a lit display meter, and a notice on the rear left window detailing regulations and the vehicle's registration number. It will help if you go to the official taxi line at Gare de Lyon. Last time I took a taxi from Gare de Lyon (2023), it was out front but that information could be out of date. The fare will be based on the meter and will not be a set rate. I mention that because I have had drivers of official taxis tell me that there is a fixed rate from a train station -- not at Gare de Lyon but at Gare du Nord but mentioning here so you know that just because you are in an official taxi does not mean that there is a 100% guarantee of honesty.

I don't think a taxi is needed at all. The 14 westbound-12 northbound transfer at Madeleine has escalators all the way, and Lamarck has elevators (a flight of stairs might remain, not sure).

Edit: whoops, just saw this was an old thread.
