Easiest way to get from CDG to Dijon

Is there an easy way to get from CDG airport to Dijon without a rental car?

Assuming I am not impacted by the air strikes the days before, I am arriving at CDG on 21 Sept. I bought a TVG ticket from Gare de Lyon to Dijon, but I am not finding an easy way to get from CDG to Gare de Lyon. I found another option of taking a TGV from CDG to Lyon Part Dieu, then another TGV from Lyon Part Dieu to Dijon, but that seems like a lot of extra time of the train (almost a full day).

I should mention, I am a physically fit 60yo woman, traveling alone. I have no issues transferring between trains, Metro, buses, etc., but I will have a rolling carry-on and small day-pack in tow, making it a little harder to navigate. I traveled all over Europe alone by train in my 20's, but things (not the least of which are my tolerances for risk and discomfort ;)) are very different now.

Thanks for any guidance!

I'm giving this thread a quick bump after a technical issue. Thanks to those who can help.

cherylb,
I am of an age now where I would take a taxi from CDG to Gare de Lyon. Granted, with one person only it is pricy at 65 euros, but I would factor that in as a comfort to myself.

I think your options would be to take the TGV (train à grande vitesse, or, in other words, high speed train) from CDG to Lyon and then take another train to backtrack to Dijon, or get yourself from CDG to Gare to Lyon (probably by taxi) and then take a TGV or other train (TER: transport express régional) to Dijon. CDG to Lyon to Dijon shouldn't take a full day; more like half a day. CDG to Gare de Lyon to Dijon should take a little less time.

It's possible you could find a TGV leaving CDG and stopping at Dijon on its way to Lyon, but I'm not sure those exist. Perhaps someone who has done the research on individual trains could weigh in.

Problem is that there are no direct TGV's from Gare De Lyon to Dijon between 7;55 am and 4:51 pm, a 9 hour gap. Taking the TGV to Lyon and back tracking will be more expensive as it two independent legs.

There are slower connections with TER trains.

It's late where I live, so I'm not going to bother to affirm your first statement and the second is simply a part of travel.

The third? That's what has already been suggested.

By the way, a plural is not a possessive.

"Problem is that there are no direct TGV's from Gare De Lyon to Dijon between 7;55 am and 4:51 pm, a 9 hour gap."
I see several trains on September 21 traveling from Gare de Lyon to Dijon.

@cherylb, here are two easy ways to get to Gare de Lyon from CDG: take a fixed rate taxi for 56€ or take the RER B to Chatelet-les-Halles and change to the RER A direction Marne La Valle Chessy or Boissy Saint Leger. Gare de Lyon is the next stop after Chatelet-le -Halles. RER Lines A and B share platforms at Chatelet Les Halles, but not for the connection you are making. Line A eastbound connects with Line B northbound. You will need to change platforms but it is not complicated if you just follow the signs. I vote for taking a taxi if you decide to go to Gare de Lyon.
The train from CDG to Lyon takes about between 4 and almost 6 hours. The train from Gare de Lyon takes less than 2 hours and costs less but you do have to pay to get into Paris and allocate an additional hour to get there. For me, unless there was one of the faster trains leaving CDG for Lyon right at around 3 hours after my arrival time, I would choose to take a taxi to Gare de Lyon.

This is exactly what I needed. Thank you!

As I said, I already have my TGV ticket from Gare de Lyon to Dijon. The trip from CDG to Gare de Lyon just seemed a little complicated. You have affirmed that it is, especially with luggage.

My head was telling me to take a taxi. My pride, which loves the challenge of navigating the trains, was pulling otherwise.

My head (and my husband) thank you! :)

Problem is that there are no direct TGV's from Gare De Lyon to Dijon between 7;55 am and 4:51 pm, a 9 hour gap.

That is not at all true- there are services at 0919, 1021, 1117, 1154, 1222 and 1451.

And CDG to Lyon to Dijon is 91.60 Euro on most trains, from Paris Lyon it is 78 Euro (on some 39 Euro)- so a 14 Euro difference, add on the taxi fare from CDG and via Lyon from CDG works out cheaper.

But 39 + 56 Euro taxi -= 95 Euro so the CDG to Dijon via Lyon fare is basically a wash.

The time taken is say 1 hour by taxi + 1hr 45 by train from Gare de Lyon= 2:45. Via Lyon the fastest connection is 4:12, more typically an hour longer. Nine such connections that day and 1st class on most of those is barely more than 2nd class.

That's total nonsense to go to Lyon to backtrack on a TER to Dijon. And I have no idea what the above taxi stuff was all about.

Sam is correct, with or without his apostrophe. The TGV Lyria is direct and stops in Dijon, but there is a long gap before any more direct TGV services. The next ones are all in the afternoon or evening at : 4:51, 5:16, 5:54, 6:21, 6:51, 8:20, 9:15.

If I were traveling, I'd stash my suitcase at the Gare de Lyon, and spend the time enjoying an afternoon in Paris before hoping on one of those direct TGVs that leaves after 4 pm. In less than 2 hours of travel, I'd be in Dijon.

I've spent a lot of time on those TERs. Ugh. And be sure to avoid the TERs that leave from Paris Gare de Lyon or Bercy because you'll be on slow trains the whole way with a travel time between 4-6 hours when you could be out enjoying a Paris garden instead.

Elizabeth,

Is the SNCF Connect website showing trains and fares which don't exist on 21 September? All the trains listed above from Gare de Lyon are direct TGV's- also the 1021, 1154 and 1222 are Lyria trains, the remainder are InOui trains.
There is no obvious sign that day of any slow TER trains from Paris. It's a totally academic question whether they aren't running due to the ongoing resignalling work on the line.

Sorry, I was looking at the wrong date when I said no trains. This issue begins on October 6.

RER Lines A and B share platforms at Chatelet Les Halles, but not for the connection you are making. Line A eastbound connects with Line B northbound.

That is not what my track map shows me. The connection from the southbound RER B connects to the eastbound RER A on the same platform, so it is just a walk across the platform.

Somehow, three of us missed that it's this Sunday, the 21st. Indeed, there are direct TGV trains to Dijon all day long. And a taxi from the airport to the station means the OP is ready to go.

But I sure wouldn't want to try to get there during the day on a weekday. I used to take that line all the time to my in-laws. It can be long.

I don’t remember there being different kinds of TGVs when I lived in Strasbourg MANY years ago, but my ticket says TGV INOUI 6705. I bought it on the SNCF website.

I see now I am on the second level, which is unfortunate with luggage, but I’ll figure it out.

Thanks for all the help!

I just bought two tickets on the SCNF site for a trip in October and selected two seats on the lower level of the train (I have screenshots to prove it) but the confirmation I received is for seats on the upper level. So it may be that it would not have mattered if you had selected lower level seats.

This is a 16 car train. The cars are numbered from the front (on a Sunday and Monday)- 11 to 18 (in the front set) then 1 to 8 (in the rear set) with car 8 being the rearmost passenger car.
The rest of the week it is 18 to 11 then 8 to 1 (1 being the rear car)

Cars 1 to 3 and 11 to 13 are first class, 4 and 14 are the cafe cars.

On a Sunday the front set is scheduled to be locked out of passenger use.
