My husband and I leave for our first visit to Paris in three days. We will arrive at CDG in the early afternoon. I just realized that I Have all of our trip pretty much nailed down except that I'm not sure of the simplest way to get from CDG to our lodging in Montparnasse We will bring one suitcase and one carry on, so prefer not to do the metro. So- taxi or shuttle? ( my elderly French Aunt Odette tells me that a taxi will be tres cher.)
The Le Cars Air France bus will take you to Gare Montparnasse for 17.50 euro per person with luggage stored under the bus. If you decide to brave the RER B (piece of cake actually), it will get you to Denfert-Rochereau for 9.50 euro each. You did not say exactly where your hotel was. It may be walking distance from either of these, or still need to take a short taxi ride. Tres cher should be less than 70 euro, so depending on your frame of mind, might not be so cher after all, being that is the total for 2.
Here is the Les Cars website. You'll want the #4 route.
RER to Denfert-Rochereau will be faster and cost less, but you won't see much of Paris on the way in since it goes into a tunnel. The bus will show you parts of the city.
Which of these is easiest for you probably depends on which gets you closer to your hotel.
Les Cars Air France will be much more comfortable than the RER. It might take a smidgen longer, but you will feel less frazzled.
Chris:
I've never set foot in France, but will in 10 days.
IMO, and especially if you're bringing luggage, I would keep things as simple as possible once you arrive. That Air France bus looks like a no-brainer. Use Google Maps Streetview to see where that bus disembarks outside Gare Montparnasse so you can plan how to get from there to your final destination.
Bon Voyage!
JM
The Air France bus #4 stops on Rue Rene Mouchette, on the southeast side of Gare Montparnasse. A taxi from there to your hotel would probably make sense. Where's the hotel?
Just so you don't get confused, the bus will stop at Gare de Lyon before it makes its way to its terminus at the Gare Montparnasse.
Have taken the Air France Les Cars bus and can attest it's easy to use, and drivers are helpful. Depending on where your hotel is and how much luggage you haveyou may be able to walk from Gare Montparnasse to your destination. Have fun!
The first time we went to Paris in 2014 my husband & I did the Metro to our apartment. We had taken the Eurostar from London to Paris. This year we hired a private shuttle for 50 euros to take us from CDG to our apartment. Yes it was more expensive but to us it was totally worth it to be dropped off right at the doors to our apartment. No stairs or escalators or trying to schlep everything into the busy Metro. Enjoy your trip!
