Easiest rental car drop off: Avignon TGV or Aix en Provence TGV Station?

3 years ago we rented our car from the Aix en Provence TGV and then returned it 1 week later. It was very simple, when getting off the train, you exit out the door, walk 50? Feet down the sidewalk and enter the car rental of your choice. All cars are in a lot right beside the train station and have simple access to the highway of choice. When returning, we larked it, dropped off keys, walked in to the station and got on our train. The train station is not located in town (I believe there is 2?) but this one was very small, had a small cafe for coffee, etc and some snacks. We then took the train to Paris, to Gar de Lyon. A couple of years ago, we returned a car to the Avignon TGV station, also outside the center. Very easy with a gps. The only problem was finding a gas station to refill the tank. We were not coming on an autoroute, so could not use those stations. Our gps took us to three different unmanned stations, none of which would accept our American credit cards; nor would they accept cash. We finally got the idea of trying a supermarket, which, in France, often will sell gas. There we were successful. Just something for you to keep in mind whichever city you choose.

To clarify for Judy, the TGV station is on the fringe of Avignon. There is a five-minute shuttle to the old Central station where the regional trains stop.
In Aix-en-Provence the TGV station is upwards of a half-hour ride into the centre.

But if you're taking the TGV to Paris, the TGV station is exactly where you want to be. We found Avignon TGV very easy on two trips.
