Early or Late Train Dijon to Antibes

Me again,

I can't decide if we should take an earlier train from Dijon to Anitbes and enjoy the scenery for a longer day ride (approximately 7.5 hours) with 1 stop or take the last train, non-stop, to Antibes about 4:30 for a 6 hour ride arriving about 10:30 pm. My considerations are to maximize my limited first time in France and safety for 2 ladies traveling in the night. I have only 2 nights in Dijon and 3 nights in Antibes. Any thoughts are still greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Lorieann

Not a safety question for me, but I simply don’t like arriving anywhere that late if it is not home or somewhere I have been a million times and really know my way around. If you will be looking for your lodging etc upon arrival in Antibes, I would go with whatever gave me an earlier arrival time, if possible.

The scenery is quite varied along the way, and especially good in the last hour of the journey as you skirt the sea: I'd take the earlier train. Safety doesn't play a part, as I responded in your other thread, Antibes is very safe.

I hate trying to find lodgings in an unfamiliar area after dark, but my vision is far from normal and I assume that isn't so much if an issue for others. It does help to have the hotel location plotted on an electronic map loaded on my smartphone; the blue dot conquers all, eventually.

If you aren't positive your lodgings have a 24-hour-a-day reception desk, check with it to be sure a late arrival is OK. Your train might run late, then you have to reach the place you're staying. I've stayed in a lot of plsces that normally expect guests to arrive by 7 or 8 PM.
