Driving trip through Southern France

Another question has cropped up as we plan our 3 week driving trip in Southern France: Has anyone rented a car which included an electronic toll device? EuroCar doesn't provide one (we're getting our Hertz from them). Our last driving trip, we had to make sure we had the correct change, etc. thanks!

I drove on the toll road in Burgundy and Alsace in 2015 - the machines accepted bills up to €20 - and then I had lots of coins☺

Have not had the electronic toll device, but have encountered the inconsistency of some toll stations not accepting US credit cards -- even though the MasterCard and VISA logos are posted on the toll station. Apparently the toll roads are operated by different companies with different policies. So, you are wise to plan on having cash to cover your tolls.

you don't need correct change - they will give you change. Had several occasions for this. The drive thru the south of France is amazing, so take it all in.

Yes, you don't always need correct change -- but carry lots of €10 or €5 bills. We encountered a toll gate that didn't take our credit card and only had a €50 bill -- needed a bag to carry all the €2 coins we got in change!!
Also, on the rentals we have done in California there's a hefty surcharge for using a rental toll device, so we don't do it.
