Driving to Paris from Baune

Recommendations for stop from Baune to stop outside of Paris. We have 2 days before we go to CDG to leave. Should we stay outside of Paris - Fountainbleu or go back to Paris? We have visited Paris before - always more to see.

Back in 2014 (time flies) on a long drive from L'Isle sur la Sorgue to Paris, we spent the night in Fontainebleau and toured the palace the next day. We had a wonderful time, and would definitely recommend this overnight stop. We stayed at a nice hotel called HOTEL DE L'AIGLE NOIR.

Taking the A6 worth a stop or stay are Semur-en-Auxois, Auxerre and Fontainebleau. If you don’t mind a detour the Abbey of Fontenay and Vézelay. Easy to reach if following the A5 certainly Troyes and Vaux-le-Vicomte close to Mélun. If going to the latter and you don’t mind a narrow countryside road Blandy le Tour is worth driving through (exit 16 / A5), otherwise exit 15 / A5 if you skip it.

You can also visit Guédelon, a construction site of a medieval castle using original building techniques. Located a bit in the middle of nowhere south-west of Auxerre.

All of Wil's suggestions are great. We once stopped in Semur en Auxois en route to Paris from Provence and were so taken with it that we later spent a week in a cottage there. It was heavenly and it is a good base for nearby sites like Fontenay Abbey.

Auxerre and Vezellay are also great stops. This part of Burgundy is rich in beautiful towns and abbeys and chateaux. We often just followed the tourist signs to discover new spots.

As usual, Wil has given excellent suggestions and I probably would have given the same advice if I had beaten Wil to posting. To his list you can add Noyers-sur-Serein and/or Châteauneuf-en-Auxois. Also, not to be pedantic but the spellings are Beaune (not Baune) and Fontainebleau (not Fontainebleu). It might be relevant if you are google searching.

I'm assuming you have 2 nights and will use one base to do a bit of exploring and I think Semur-en-Auxois would actually be a great base for 2 nights and from there you can do day trips to some of the places mentioned and even more. You should be researching the excellent French tourist office websites to learn what to see and do in this or any other region of France and here are a few for that region to get you started:

https://www.terres-auxois.fr/

https://www.france-voyage.com/tourisme/semur-auxois-275.htm

https://www.ot-auxerre.com/

https://www.guedelon.fr/en

https://www.tourisme-yonne.com/office-de-tourisme/office-de-tourisme-vezelay-avallon-morvan-serein-bit-noyers/

And some notable châteaux in that region:

And actually, there are over a dozen other possibilities I could suggest for a 2 night overnight between Beaune and CDG, such as driving right from Beaune to the region around CDG and spending a couple of nights there so you'd be close to the airport, maybe basing in Senlis. There is a thread on that if that is something you want to consider:

And certainly there are options for Fontainebleau, Vaux-le-Vicomte, Provins, Blandy-les-Tours, Moret-sur-Loing, Barbizon, Bourron-Marlotte, Milly-la-Forêt etc., etc.
