Driving from Marseille to Antibes and back to Aix-en-Provence

Question on smaller roads - renting a car at the airport , driving to Antibes and returning 3 days later to the train station in Aix-en-Provence. Due to some post-car accident issues we avoid driving on highways. A couple of things:

  1. Is the A8 like our interstates here in regards to traffic and high speeds?
  2. What are the smaller roads like along this route?
  3. How is the coastal road between Fejus to Antibes, via Cannes?

A8 was the same as a US interstate. Back roads: I didnt drive that exact route, but drove many backroads around Provence, and down to the Med (basically around Provence, then to Cassis, then from Cassis to Nice) and found the roads just like back-roads here. I don't have specific knowledge of the route in #3.
