I am driving from Amboise to Versailles and need to return my rental car near a train station. Any idea where I can do that? We do not want to do any real city driving in France. Should we return our car further out from Paris and ride a train into Versailles?
Alternatively, we could just have a day in Paris and not worry about getting in to Versailles from Amboise, if the transportation element is too tricky.
There are six of us traveling. My husband and four kids age 16,14,12,10
A quick google search shows many car rental locations walking distance of Versailles Chateau-Rive Gauche RER station. Avis is right next door.
Why not just return the car in Amboise, take the train to Paris, and visit Versailles another day? (Assuming you will spend some time in Paris.) Or if you can't return the car in Amboise, maybe Tours or Orléans?
However, if you still want to drive to Versailles, there seems to be a number of car rental companies that have offices in Versailles, many of them close to Versailles-Chantiers station.
