My wife and I would like to drive from Paris to Interlacken and rent a car in order to do so...I know, I know..."TAKE THE TRAIN!"
...Well we do like the adventure of driving in a foreign country with the views all around us and stopping over in little towns along the way. Strange I know. I am just wondering:
Can you do this without the HUGE drop fee? Ive seen $350 in most cases to leave the car in Interlacken. We would only need the car for a day.

I'm afraid you're stuck with that drop-off charge.
Your answer is to rent two cars. Now you have to commit to a specific time for dropping one car, then picking up the next car. We're you looking at the Basel area for your border crossing, or somewhere else? Choose a border station if possible, in order to avoid trains altogether. Or, use a train to 'bridge the gap' between two rental car cities.
If you only want a car for one day, and want to stop in little towns along the way, that will make for a short trip, km-wise. Where did you have in mind for your starting and ending towns?
