Anyone have any great stories and recommendations on driving from Lyon to Nice? Planning a trip in early September. Train from CDG to Lyon, a few nights in Lyon and a leisurely drive to Nice. Hoping for recommendations on the journey and stops along the way.
Many thanks!
Just under 300 miles and 5-6 hours minimum. Suggest you go to Google Maps and put the cities in the directions. There are two completely different ways of going.
What are you most interested in seeing and how much time will you take? You can do it in the minimum time (4.5hr ) but the main tollways bypass many of the best sights and most beautiful villages and towns. You'll see a lot of trucks. On side trip is to divert through to the Luberon as the N129/D900 intersects the A7. You can then stop in a place like Gordes, Roussillon, etc. Or you could simply spend the time in Orange, or Avignon, if you want Roman instead of countryside.
Gooster-good points!
I have traveled to Avignon, Isle Sur La Sorgue (sp?) and lower Rhone region. We definitely want to enjoy quaint villages and beautiful scenery on our way to Haute des Cagnes (Outside of Nice) where we are staying the week. We will continue our travel up and down the coast via train and bus. Thanks for any recommendations on places to stay, eat, etc. We are thinking of no more than one or two overnights before we arrive at our destination in Nice area.
Best,
