Dreaming of a trip and making plans for whenever.....

Planning a nice trip takes our minds off the chaos around us so I could use some advice here......thinking, if possible, in the future of flying into Paris and training to Strasbourg. Never been to that area of France and would love to see it and the cathedral there. Our goal is to get to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland and we thought it might be nice to train through an area we had never visited. Anyone have any ideas of potential stops to enjoy from Strasbourg to Lauterbrunnen? I notice the route goes through Bern where we have visited before......any suggestions would help! Thank you! We always rent a car but thinking this trip might be a trains only one.....

Hi Jane,

I am in Brentwood! Lived in Franklin for many years! We were in both Strasbourg and Lauterbrunnen last summer, but we did not stop in between. I just wanted to recommend Hotel Silberhorn in Lauterbrunnen...lovely...and great food! Also, plan a trip to Colmar while in Strasbourg.

Keep planning. We have cancelled our 25 day trip for this summer, but looking forward to 2021!

It’s not a long trip from Strasbourg to Lauterbrunnen so you might go straight through. The Lauterbrunnen Valley and great Jungfrau Region are so spectacular I cannot imagine an intermediate stop being better. However, if you have not been to Lucerne, it is quite charming and has the lake and several peaks to explore. Nice train trip from there to Lauterbrunnen as well.

Thank you Laurel......we have been to the Jungfrau twice and think of it as our place where we “take our pack off”.......since we have not seen the Strasbourg-Colmar area just thought it might be fun to stop and admire them on our way to Lauterbrunnen.

I see where the international ban is not being lifted as of July 1 for American travelers traveling to Europe......and that the ban will be reviewed every 2 weeks......also heard on a business broadcast that European nations need and want our tourist $ so this will be an interesting development.......as the cases in America have risen over the last few weeks I am not surprised..........thoughts?

Thanks, Jane. I've also been dreaming of a nice trip (2021?) to take my mind off this disastrous year and the embarrassing travel ban for Americans. I've also never been to Strasbourg or Colmar and was planning on going there next - I always go to Paris whenever possible - and the Bernese Oberland is in that category too! My husband and I have "our bench" just off the path at the end of the village of Murren and we long to sit on it again.

I stopped in Beaune for a day on a Rick Steves tour and that might be a town you'd enjoy on the way. It's very beautiful and, though I'm not an oenophile, the Pinot Noir burgundy I had there was the best wine I've ever had - I couldn't stop smelling it! (Not bad escargots and boeuf bourguignon either!)
