Hello, I’m looking for a place in France (maybe southern France?) that will have nice countryside views, maybe a market, and a cafe or two. Just for a couple of days to relax, not in need of much sightseeing. Also hoping not to rent a car. I can picture it in my mind, but I’m not sure where it actually exists…Any advice?
Gordes, Loumarin….you will need a car……..
countryside or villages and no car don't work well. Trains don't go to villages and buses are designed for locals to work not so much for tourists. We spent a week in a cottage at the foot of the walls of Semur en Auxois and loved every minutes of it:

There are lots of small towns that are a pleasure. Our favorite region for this is the Dordogne where we have spent a week or two in Cadouin and in Limeuil I liked Cadouin better as a village but both were in pretty places. there are lots of other choices.
It looks like home, it's in the south, I have a beautiful view of a countryside landscape and at the same time cafes and markets (8kms from here).
There are thousands of places like that in France, but as janettravel points out, without a car it's very complicated to manage.
And on a bike it's not the right time with the 42° C that we have today
Maybe southwest France. You can take a train to Bayonne. From there you can take a 54 line train to Saint Jean Pied de Port. If STPdP is too touristy, maybe Cambo-Les-Bains, or one of the smaller villages on the line.
This is the Aquitaine region train map.
Abbaye de la Bussiere, outside Dijon/Beaune. But you need a car. That's why they call it the countryside ...
