It looks like there are two one-hour river rides, one covering the part of the Dordogne starting at La Roque-Gageac and the other starting at Beynac. They cover different parts of the Dordogne. I'm wondering if anyone has done both and could recommend one over the other. Thanks for your opinions.
We did the one that started at Beynac. It was great for a family group, ages 20 to 60. Had lunch along the way. Very pleasant and highly recommend!
We can only speak to canoeing from Cenac to Beynac. The views of the medieval castles and villages were amazing. We did pass many river boats along the way. Either way, a memorable experience. Enjoy!
We did the one from Beynac, which had some spectacular views (in fact, one of them is now my screen saver). But I'd guess that the one from La Roque Gageac would be equally spectacular.
We paddled the section from Cenac to Beynac and it was one of the most scenic in many, many years of canoeing. We were with a group so we couldn't paddle the next section much to our regret. Since both of them are relatively short paddles, why not do both it the outfitter can arrange the shuttle? I think it would be well worth it.
We have also only done the one from Beynac. It goes downstream as far as an impassible shallow "rapids" near Chateu de Castlenaud. The one from La Roque Gageac goes upstream as far as that same shallow section.
I agree that it's an interesting excursion, worth your time and money.
