Dordogne, France, in October?

My wife and I are planning a trip to France for October 2019. We're spending 6 days in Provence and then we would love to spend 6 days in Dordogne (October 21-27th). What's causing me some hesitation right now is concern about October weather in Dordogne. I know October is essentially off-season and that the weather is going to be cooler, but how much rain do they get in October? We are well-traveled and don't let a little rain get in the way of a good time, but is October rain in Dordogne enough to decide not to go?

Thanks!

Google "october weather in dordogne" or some such. I found a site that shows temperatures in the 50s and 60s with about half an inch of rain over four days. That looks darn good to me.

Thanks! I looked at the data, of course, but was curious about the experience of folks who've been there.

Daily weather will, of course, vary but it's beautiful that time of year. Fall leaves and all. I don't remember rain and it was comfortable enough early to mid -October to spend a few hours kayaking in a river near Sarlat. (Calm waters and wouldn't have wanted to get it, but air temp was fine). Maybe I got lucky but it is beautiful and I'd happily go back in October, regardless of a little rain.

Our first trip to the Dordogne was about 25 years ago in October. I don't remember any weather issues. What I do remember was that a number of places had closed for the season, including a restaurant where we had planned on having dinner the last night. But I wouldn't be surprised if seasonal closures are much later now.

We were in the Dordogne in October several years ago and I remember the weather as being mild and sunny. However, as we headed north toward Paris, it got cooler to the point where we ended up buying polar fleece jackets at a boutique at an "aire" (rest area on an autoroute). So, my advice is to go, but be prepared for whatever the weather may do. Take a light rain jacket and some sweaters for layering, but above all, don't let a little rain keep you from enjoying one of the most beautiful and interesting areas in France.

We were considering month long stay in Dordogne extending into October. We have friends that have spent several months a year in France for the last 20 years so I ask them about October. We didn't talk much about weather since you can look that up. They said that things start closing up in October. After some discussion we decided to go in September. As it turned out my wife got sick and we weren't able to go so we are back to our more normal time this year, mid May to June. The Dordogne area is great. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Jeff — I took my parents to the Dordogne in October a few years ago. It was mostly kind of cool and misty, rained a little bit, but there were sunny days too. I enjoyed visiting at that time of the year and felt lucky that the weather didn't besiege us with intense rainstorms.
