I’m may take a taxi from CDG to my hotel. Do taxis take credit cards?
Yes, but be sure and get into the official taxi line; don't be swayed by someone offering you a ride. It's a fixed price from CDG to left bank or right bank-price depending on which you are going to.
They are required to but it is not unheard for the device to be 'broken' as cabbies often prefer cash. So show your credit card when you get the cab and make sure they agree. I always have the 65 Euro I need in hand and pay cash. Tips not necessary.
Taxis must absolutely accept credit cards: Visa/MC. If their card processing equipment is not functioning, they are legally prohibited from picking up a fare.
oh, and if after you show them your credit card and they save the machines out of order and you start to walk away, they change their mind. Don’t go back. They should not be rewarded for lying. I saw a cab driver try that with a local and he lived to regret it as she proceeded only to tell him off she opened up the door and took pictures of his license information to file a complaint.
Which brings us to the question about how to file a complaint:
This must be done while you are in Paris. All the driver information you need is found on a window sticker on the left, rear window.
Thanks for the great information. If I understand correctly, I should be charged a flat fee to the 15th arrondisement. How much will it be or does it depend on the time of day? I’d like to be prepared with Euros.
It’s a flat fee regardless of time of day or day of the week. From CDG to the Left Bank, which includes your destination, the current fee is 65€.
Here’s a link to the CDG website with info on taxis that might help:

The site is in French, but my iPad translated it to English. Hopefully you can see it in English.
Basically, this is all there is to taking a taxi from CDG to Paris:
Use a Taxi Parisien from the official taxi stand. Do not accept offers from clandestine drivers soliciting from within the terminals. Taxi fares are fixed at 56€/65€ to the Right/Left Bank respectively (for up to 4 passengers and luggage). There is a 5.50€ supplement for each additional passenger from 5 to 7. There are no other charges. Drivers are not tipped. Offer the driver your written destination.
When returning to CDG from Paris, you may contact Taxi G7 (the largest dispatcher of Taxis Parisiens):
English speaking operator 01 41 27 66 99 or +33 1 41 27 66 99
Unless departing from a taxi stand, in addition to the fixed fare there is a 4.50€ dispatch fee or a 7€ fee to arrange for future pickup.
These instructions are pointless. Take Uber or RER if you want your choice of payment. This happened to us numerous times: get in the official taxi line, ask supervisor if cabbie will take a card, receive a reply of "Oui". Get in taxi, go to destination, cabbie refuses to accept card. Worst case: get driven to ATM for cash. These guys apparently have nothing better to do than tack an extra 15 minutes onto your ride to take you to the ATM for cash. It is ABSURD, and they are never getting my money again.
When they refuse to take your credit card start taking photos of EVERYTHING and say "that's the only way I am paying" (i've never had to do this but have known people who have. One friend had this happen, they said they would not give him is luggage out of the back so he pulled out his cell phone and said "I'm calling the police" They gave him his luggage) Everytime I 've asked for credit card, they said yes and accepted it.
I had a driver from Gare du Nord who tried to overcharge me. I took photos and said "i am filing a complaint" He told me "no,no,no I give you free ride". He explained that another complaint would cost him his license. I took the "free ride" and filed the complaint. He deserved to lose his license.
My experiences with Uber in Paris are significantly worse than my taxi experiences however. LOL!
"He explained that another complaint would cost him his license. I took the "free ride" and filed the complaint. He deserved to lose his license." Carol, that is channeling some priceless Liam Neeson!! Love it.
We had the opposite problem when we arrived at Gare de Lyon. It was raining sideways when we approached the taxi. He looked at the address of our hotel in the 18th and said, "Is this in Paris"? We said of course it was--it was in Montmartre. He drove off leaving us stranded. I wished I'd gotten his information. I definitely would have reported him.
"This happened to us numerous times: get in the official taxi line, ask supervisor if cabbie will take a card,"
I always hold up either my phone or CC TO THE DRIVER and ask "OK" as they are loading my bag and before I get in the cab. I also show them a card with the address typed on it AND the amount of the fixed fare so they know I know, blah blah.
As OP on this thread, thank you to the wonderful people on this forum who responded to my inquiry in March. I am a retired female solo traveler. I found your comments helpful and felt equipped to take a taxi to my rental apartment.
I made the decision to use the taxi line upon arrival and had my 65 Euros plus a card with the address of my left bank destination ready. I speak passable French. When seated, I handed the card to the driver and said something along the lines of “I understand this will be 65 Euros.” The driver entered the address in his GPS then reached to his meter. He entered 65 then said in French, “ no more-no less.” I thanked him, and off we went.
When we arrived, I handed him the exact fare in Euros then gave him a 2 Euro tip which appeared to both surprise and please him.
I had downloaded the G7 app and used it to reserve my return to the airport at the end of my stay. As suggested on this forum, I made my reservation two days ahead and allowed plenty of time prior to my flight. When I stepped out of the apartment house about 7 am, the driver was waiting about a block away in the empty street and immediately came to pick me up.
You indeed sound like a "HappyTraveler!"
