Hi. We have friends that we are going on the Alpine My Way with us and they insist that we need to take euros with us. What do you say?
Get some cash but, they have an ap to buy tickets online on a phone or laptop in advance, machines to buy tickets and live person ticket windows.
I cannot imagine that cash would be the only form of payment that would be accepted to by a lift ticket.
Should cash be needed for something, I suspect an ATM would solve the need.
That is what I say, no $0.02 payment necessary. :-)
I'd never be in another country without some cash from that country. I pay mostly by applepay on my phone linked to my credit card, but there are shops in Paris that have a 15 Euro limit for credit -- I have run into that several times recently -- mostly cheese shps and butcher shops. You can buy lift tickets on line but I would still not want to be without a little walking around money.
Cash is not needed for lift tickets, but it is often needed at mountain huts if you want snacks or meals in the mountains away from villages. So yes, some cash is good to have: it can be withdrawn at any bank ATM.
