My husband and I have our train tickets and tickets to Monet's Garden already. We might also want to visit the Museum of Impressionism in Giverny and its gardens. We will be there May 29. Do we need to purchase tickets to the Museum of Impressionism in advance or can we just purchase them there? Also, does it include the museum's gardens? Thanks.
no. we were there last fall and wandered into the museum to get lunch (they have a restaurant which you can access without entering the museum). There were no entry lines for the museum.
Generally small museums don't have long lines like the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay or Orangerie do.
Thank you, Janettravels44.
It's been at at least a decade since my visit but I remember no masters' paintings at the museum. Giverny languished for a long time with little attention and held no canvases by the master. Now the gardens are delightfully revived, but the simplest canvas would cost a fortune. It's a nice look at impressionism but not a treasure trove.
The biggest survey of his work, and others, is at the Musée Marmottan in Paris.
We didn't go in but just had lunch. I agree that if you want to see Monets, go to the Marmottan and for Impressionists in general the Musee d'Orsay. the Marmottan has Monet's iconic picture 'Impression Sunrise' after which the movement was named.
Thank you, everyone, for your responses. We have several hours in Giverny before our return train reservations and were looking for other places to visit. Marmottan is indeed special. I'm pleased that we wouldn't have to make reservations at the Museum of Impressionism. This way we can go or not. I remember Giverny as a sweet little town to just wander which is what we might do, instead, as well as visit Monet's grave, have lunch, etc.
