dinner recommendation in Paris- there just one night

We are going to be in Paris Thursday night for our last night in France, Will be arriving about 3 pm on train from Amboise. we have 6 pm tickets for Musee d' Orsay. We are staying at Residence des Arts. Our rough plan is to walk through the Luxembourg Gardens from the train station to our hotel, freshen up, go to the museum and then find some dinner afterwards, maybe as late as 9pm. Any suggestions in the general area for a late dinner, not too fussy or heavy as it will be late. it's been years since we've been to Paris and this trip through France, most every restaurant closes by 9pm.

Forum knows I don't like to give away secrets but if you are willing to walk a little farther away from the trocadero you come on a spot in the diplomats' neighborhood that has almost the same name but almost no tourist traffic (at least at lunch, dinner is mixed)

Sorry just realized that you're lodging on the other side of the Orsay --
you should just wander along the Bou' Mich' and pick one of the many many eateries -- the touts will guarantee you a good time

The restaurants are in side streets, not the Boulevard Saint Michel. If I had only one meal in Paris, I wouldn't
want any of these.

Restaurants don't start to fill until after 8:30 in Paris.

One poster here, Tocard, has good lists for the 6th arrondissement. Maybe he'll see this.

Meanwhile, you don't give your price range, but if you go to metro Vavin on the Boulevard Montparnasse, you'll find Le Select, a café restaurant institution good for people watching, too. A notch higher are La Rotonde and Le Dôme, two classics just feet away, and for people watching and ding spectacle there's La Coupole right there, too. La Coupole and Le Dôme are known for seafood.

There are plenty of good restaurants around the Marché Saint Germain in the 6th, near Mabillon metro. Lobineau is good for seafood, chez Fernand is good for meat dishes, L'Avant Comptoir is good for small bites... and there are many others I have never tried.
The area is within walking distance from musée d'Orsay and to your hotel.

Ohio Donna -- I was violating the spirit of the 'no grumps' rule and will delete that comment; it's right of you to call me out for it.

Bets, I agree with you about avoiding the spots off the Bou Mich -- I was in a mood when I saw this post ;-P
please bear with my lapse!

A simply wonderful restaurant that I just eat at is 9 minutes from you.r hotel, Le Choupe Chou
If I was a frequent visitor to Paris, I would go here all the time! Inside, if I rambled from room to room, which you can never tell from the front. Very sweet.

As Bets points out, the main dinner hour is from 8 to 9, so 9 is really not late. Restaurants do not necessarily close at 9, they just do not seat much later than 9. Cafés will seat nearer to their actual closing.

I might offer a few ideas, but finding a dinner which is ¨not too fussy or heavy¨ is not a lot to go on. A couple of easy suggestions near your hotel would be la Jacobine or even Roger la Grenouille. La Jacobine offers simple dishes mostly made from fresh ingredients, but it is always packed with tourists. Roger la Grenouille has been at the same, very hidden locations for many years. I dined there within the last few months and it was OK, I believe they have live music on Thursday nights.

I have never tried Lobineau, probably will not because it is a small restaurant with a menu that is far too large to execute without the initial ingredients being frozen or prepared in an off site kitchen. However, next door is Seulement Sea, an interesting seafood restaurant. Among other things, they serve whole branzino (loup or bar) for under 30€ which is very nice. Huguette, Bistro de la mer is another nearby seafood restaurant which has good mention, but I have not yet tried it.

However, what I think might work well is a new restaurant which has replaced the old Cuisine de Philippe on rue Servandoni called Aux Perchés. The location is charming, the menu is small and changes often (fresh ingredients), and prices moderate (around 35€ to 40€ for entrée/plat). What I really find intriguing are the desserts; cheese, peaches, or a small chocolate dish (le chou, choco-noisette), simple and all made by chef Elise. Overall, should be a wonderful restaurant for a last night in Paris.

You can reserve on line: https://www.auxperches.com/

From the Musée d´Orsay to any of these restaurants allow 25 to 30 minutes to walk. Wherever you decide, make a reservation, at least a day in advance.
