We are planning at day trip to Cassis in order to take a boat tour of the Calanques. Dining suggestions online offer inconsistent results. Having been there a couple years back...dining options even then did not look appealing. I much preferred to go to Sanary sur Mer...lovelier but too far this time. Can you recommend a place in Cassis or is there some hidden gem around Cassis, in another town, or at a winery or on the way home where we could have a nice lunch?
I was there 2 yrs ago and did not find any dining options of note for our 3 night stay.
You are right...they make such a big deal about the town...we ate twice..if you dont like Moules, frites or this red fish soup you are sunk!!
We stayed in Cassis 2 nights about 10 years ago. Most of the places along the port looked pretty tourist and mediocre, but since we had a recommendation as to one of them, we ate there. It was pretty bad. On the other hand, the next night we decided to walk away from the water, which seemed less touristy, and found a place that looked promising. It seemed like mostly locals were there, and it was outstanding. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name, and looking at Google Maps just now didn't jog my memory.
Was it Le Bonaparte, Robert?
No, Bets, I took a look at the picture. Fleurs de Thym is a possibility, but it doesn't look quite the same as I remember.
Yes, Fleurs de Thyme had a good reputation the months we live there years ago. Probably the best at that time. Bonaparte was our go-to.
