We will be travelling from Dijon to Milan on August 8. I have been trying to book our train via Rome2Rio website. The quickest route is through Lausanne, with 2 changes, 1 in Lausanne, 1 in Brig. I am finding that the Lausanne to Brig portion is not available to book until 30 days prior to our trip. I'm concerned that we can't book the whole trip at this time, as I don't want to leave this part to chance....but I don't want to book without the Lausanne to Brig portion. Any suggestions?
Lausanne to Brig is a Swiss internal train. No advance booking is needed on Swiss trains, and there is no discount fro advanced purchase. Just buy the tickets and get on the train.
I didn't know you could actually buy tickets on Rome2Rio, you live and learn.
Rome2Rio probably has to direct you to several different railway companies, since most national railway sites don't book legs that are entirely within a neighbor country. Go directly to www.sbb.ch to see if it can be booked there, but if it can't, don't worry. Those train connections within Switzerland don't require seat reservations, so you can always board the train, even if it's crowded. Although booking three months in advance is becoming common, two months out is the more traditional standard.
This departure offers only one connection...
TGV9261

You can also take a direct night train at www.thello.com.
Rome2rio.com will have links to railway companies but does not actually sell tickets, as far as I know. You will get the best prices by booking directly with the national sites.
