Dijon /Orleans/Chenonceau - where to spend more time

We are renting a car in Colmar (family visit) and driving a long loop back to Paris with only 4 days to do this.
Where should we spend more time.
Important things for us include:
Really good local food
(white) truffle hunting tour
Wine (obviously)
Castles/history - Note, have seen reviews that Chateau Chambord is under renovation so we are willing to skip it.
Chenonceau is more interesting due it being constructed over the river.

Hi there! Do you have any more info on the Chambord renovation? Now rethinking my plans when there are so many chateau to choose between.

Sorry, I don't. It was noted in a recent blog or post from a traveller with photos of all the scaffolding.
Maybe from trip advisor?

Well the city of Chenonceaux will take 15 minutes to see, Orleans is a pretty blah city because most of it was destroyed, so Dijon will be the bigger draw.

You have only four days, so I agree Dijon and Burgundy region, which is huge in itself. There are castles everywhere, from early defensive forts to Renaissance palaces. You can get plenty of wine in Dijon. Google for the various château. Ancy-le-France and Tanlay are two off the top of my head. You don't have to drive all the way to the Loire to see château. You might want to drive an hour west of Auxerre to see Guedelon, a medieval château under construction today using medieval methods. Food is delicious in Burgundy. I don't know a thing about white truffles.

I assume by your talk of truffle hunting this is an end of year trip?

Chambord should be unscaffolded by then - it supposedly gets uncovered the end of this month. I'd miss Orleans - I live 90 minutes away and still haven't found a reason to visit.

Chenonceau is good for a three or four hour visit, less if the weather is inclement.

Orléans is a snooze. With just four days from Colmar to Paris via Burgundy, I would not head to the Loire: there is plenty to see in Burgundy already. Besides Dijon, you could consider visiting Autun, Vézelay, Fontenay Abbey, for example.
