We have just a major change in our itinerary that now includes one night in Dijon. I normally avoid one night stays but this one was necessary to break up a long drive. I have done no research and have not develop a sense of the town and we normally do not drive. Is there parking on the street as a few hotels do not mention it? Where would be a convenient hotel for wandering the next morning, before we leave? I apologize as I am trying to cut corners here since we are taking one night and half a day. I may need to head to the library for research. Any advice gratefully accepted.
The Gare de Dijon Ville train station is located on the edge of the most touristy and historic part of Dijon. You can park there and walk west through or past the arch called Porte Guillaume to your hotel, if you choose one in that area. That's what I would suggest. Lots of stuff to see. If you're into the flow of water through a granular porous medium, the fountains where Henry Darcy did his groundbreaking empirical work are just a short walk away.
...just kidding (unless you're a hydrogeologist).
That area is where you'll find lots of museums, timbered building fronts, and picturesque squares, monuments, and a range of shopping and dining opportunities.
I used to live in the area.
We stayed 1 night at the Grand Hotel La Cloche Dijon in October 2023. it was very nice and a short walk from the train station. Enjoy Dijon….
We stayed in nearby Beaune at Le Cep, a wonderful few days.
The Hôtel Oceania is fantastic. It's a 2 minute walk from the train station and on the tramway line
I posted on your previous thread that appears to be deleted now
We stayed at this hotel
Easy to get to, right on edge of pedestrian center so easy walk to sites, secure parking offered by hotel
