Is there a way to download onto computer or phone, the walking tours outlined in various RS books? We purchased the "Provence and the French Riviera" book. As all RS books, it is filled with great information and helpful hints. It includes walking tours for many cities, such as Nice or Avignon, with very specific information (maps, where to start, end, timing, what you are seeing, etc.). Is the same information available in digital format - without having to purchase another e-book? I found nothing online. The free APP only includes audio tours for Paris, but no other French cities. It would be helpful to actually use these guides via phone, or even by printing in advance, without having to carry the book. I know some rip their books to do this, but we prefer to keep them whole.
Well, this is no help but I just bite the bullet and get the e-version. I used the paper copy for planning and then get the e-version before I travel. I can look at it on my Kindle app either on my iPhone or iPad Mini.
You could take pictures of the walking tour pages in the book, and then pull them up on your phone - would that work?
If you only have the hard copy book, you could just photocopy the pages and bring a hard copy. Or you could do as the previous poster suggested and take a photo of the pages. Or you could scan the pages into a pdf.
In recent years, I pretty much only buy ebooks. I can then access them on any of my devices. For reading in my hotel or on a plane or train, I prefer my ipad and for waling around I use access the guidebook on my phone. Rough Guides offer a free ebook if you purchase a hardcopy of their books but that doesn't help you with RS books. Interesting that you mentioned the RS Provence & French Riviera book -- I found that one to be one of the most useful (for my needs) of various RS books I have used over the years.
I can only read these days digitally on my iPad, so all my RS guides are digital.
I agree though that it would be great if those walking tours could be in the app, so much easier to use.
I have just pulled them up on my phone and used them that way but it isn't as good.
I'm not sure if you're comfortable doing this and it could take some time, but I use my Apple Maps and add my own "Routes" then save/name them to correlate with how they are in the book....or I save them for the date I'm going to use them. I also do this under the "explore" view so I can make sure to add in any stops for stores/coffee shops/parks, etc that I've already saved to my map if I'm going to be near them. If you play around with the route section of your map for a bit, you can get the hang of it fairly quickly! It will tell you how far you're walking and also the total amount of time it will take (of course you always come across something to stop and see in Paris, so don't plan on that being an exact science!)....the nice thing about it being in the Map app is that it will update if there are any streets closed for any certain reason and give you directions for going around it. I also pick a more "scenic" route sometimes...or what I might call scenic, such as staying by the river as long as possible.
Also, even though it's not RS, there is a great app for Paris called "Le Walk" that does a great job!
