Delta to fly non stop Austin to Paris

This has more detail on this. Some interesting details:

• It will be daily, to appeal to corporate travelers.
• The Austin - Paris market in itself is insufficient to justify the flight, with only ~60 daily passengers each way. The aim of the flight is to attract passengers who would connect in Paris to India (200 daily passengers each way to/from Austin), Europe, the Middle East and Africa, which significantly increases the potential market.
• Delta does not anticipate significant domestic connections via Austin to/from this flight, given the unfavorable geography. They expect most passengers to start or end their trip in Austin (but, as the bullet above notes, many will be connecting in Paris).
• Delta would prefer an aircraft with more business class seats, but the A330-900neo they have slated for the route is what they were able to allocate from their fleet.

We do not have a Hub in Austin although SW flies a lot in and out and is a real favorite but it seems like they have been scaling back because of their own financial problems.

I have noticed that Delta is adding a lot of flights from and to Austin and it has crossed my mind that Delta is going to make Austin a Hub.

This Austin to Paris flight is big news on our local stations.

EDIT To Add: Perhaps with a non stop from Austin to Paris, more than 60 passengers will go daily. And there may be travelers who would prefer to leave from Austin rather than Houston or Dallas.

Delta has made Austin a "focus city," which makes it more than a standard outstation but less than a hub. There certainly is speculation that Delta long-term wants to move it in the direction of a hub.

When the Concourse B expansion is finished, Southwest will have a total of 18 dedicated gates there (up from roughly 10 at the airport currently). We have. a very nice airport but because it is a medium size, we do not have many non stop international and even domestic flights.

I hope as my airport grows, it will still remain pleasant. I hope that it will never become chaotic like Dallas and Atlanta.

This news about Delta is vey exciting for us in Austin and it was the talk of the local news yesterday. The first tickets to Paris non stop were supposed to go on sale today.
