deciding between 2 hotels in Mont Saint Michel France

I have a reservation for La Mouton Blanc in Mont Saint Michel for 1 night in August for $181.. It is for 2 people, twin beds, no meals, & can be canceled free of charge.
I have also been looking at Du Guesclin which in answer to my message charges 105. Euros, 2 twin beds, with a bay view, on the 3rd floor.
That is quite a difference in money for what sounds like similar rooms for the same date.
Any comments on the 2 reservations??
Thank you,
Joyce, Houston TX

They are right next to each other, on the island. Rick's description says, "[$$] Hôtel du Guesclin** has the cheapest and best-value rooms I list on the island and is the only family-run hotel left there." His Mouton Blanc listing mentions differences between the older and newer wings of the hotel. Remember that the hotel listings are written with an economy of language that means every word counts. I'm sure that I would be happy in either but I usually choose the cheaper option.

I stayed at the Mouton Blanc a couple years ago, and it was fine. We were in the old part and did have a view of the water. It was a very simple room and up about 3 flights of narrow stairs, but it was on the island, and for us it was perfect....
It was late November, so the island was pretty much deserted.... it was a very unique experience for me and my 15 year old grandson. He has had 2 trips to Europe visiting Par, Normandy, Germany, Austria, Belgium... and still thinks this was one of the best experiences. I am so glad we stayed on the island.

Joyce: We stayed one night in the Du Guesclin hotel and had no complaints. For one night, I would go with it. Use the difference to pay for dinner. We took the half board option and made reservations for an evening meal overlooking the bay, around sunset. We had the best seats in the restaurant and the meal was quite memorable. As I recall, I had a special sea-salted lamb which was wonderful.

Joyce, We also stayed at Du Guesclin last year and had a room overlooking the bay. Saw the tide come in around 11 pm with the moonlight on the water. It was awesome. Reserved table overlooking water for dinner and it was a fun and delicious experience. I agree that you can spend the difference on the dinner---so worth it to have great view and convenience of walking downstairs w/o having to search out a restaurant. Just ask for anything you want for
breakfast, even if not served, and they will deliver. It was a splurge to stay on the island but a memorable experience not to be missed. With family run hotel, the staff was family and so pleasant. We would definitely recommend and would stay with them again. Have a fabulous trip!!
