Has anyone been to Vaux le Vicomte on a December evening for Illuminations? What did you think? And how late were the grounds open? I'm thinking of taking the kids after Christmas. Also, do you recommend anything else in the immediate area (staying in Melun.)
Vaux-le-Vicomte is fabulous at Christmas time! But whatever you do, DO NOT take the Paris City vision tour. You'll spend the whole time in traffic.
Ha! I was JUST looking this up! We've never been and are considering a day trip when in Paris in early Dec. The website doesn't say anything about tickets/openings after Oct. 2 from what I can see. But online people have blogged about Dec being open on the weekends only. Do they do the fireworks in Dec?
I don't know if it is fireworks. The description is a little vague, so I'm anticipating Christmas lights, and I think it said something about a garden light show. The only mention I found of it on the chateau website was when I clicked on the Buy Tickets link. It had a whole list of events, and Illuminations was at the bottom. November 20 to January 2, I think.
I had not heard about the Paris City vision tour and will take care not to. Thanks for the tip.
Does anyone know definitively if they will accept CDC cards if Passé Sanitaire does not arrive?
On front page of site it talks about GreenPass/Health Pass and then goes on to cite for Foreign Visitors with appropriate vaccine cards will be admitted…not sure if this is old info since on ticketing page for Illuminations it sites only the Green/Health Pass.
I cannot not find an email to ask question.
Do you really have to stay in Melun? It's pretty dire... Fontainebleau is far, far better, and Uber there from Vaux le Vicomte is about 40€ so still reasonable IMO.
But well, if it is just for one night you will be OK.
We do need to stay in the Melun vicinity, but just for the night, so it looks like we will only be there long enough to see the chateaux, sleep, and have a lovely breakfast before heading out if there is nothing else to head out for. We found a nice place to stay just 3 minutes from the chateaux, which is preferable since we'll be jet-lagged.
Oh no worries then, if it is three minutes away then it is not in the town of Melun, so all good!
I emailed Vaux le Vicomte if our CDC cards would be accepted and they said yes and to make sure your reservation takes into consideration 2 weeks after your last dose and final dose.
I too am concerned about getting the Passé Sanitaire….seems they have quite the backlog.
Going to Vaux Le Vicomte December 26th. I was researching train schedules on SCNF but it comes up blank…. Am I missing something or is the December schedule not posted yet. Is that the correct site to look and would the service fall under the new SCNF regulations?
