December - 27 Hours in Lille

Will be arriving by Eurostar on 02 December and departing the next day. Train arrives at 1130 and I will report back to the station at 1430 on Wednesday, the 3rd. I will rely on walking and public transport so distance is limited. Hotel is booked using points for the night so lodging is taken care of.

I will see the Christmas market and generally enjoy markets of all kinds, along with classes and walking tours. Budget is fairly generous as I tend to travel with cheap basics in order to enjoy unique experiences. I am not a real foodie type person and eat a simple, vegetarian diet. I did see there are some local goodies that can make nice gifts or take home treats - if you have a favorite or any advice on this, I'd gratefully accept it.

If anyone has enjoyed these kinds of things in Lille, any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I spent Christmas in Lille several years ago and it was an absolutely lovey time to be there. The city lends itself perfectly to this time of the year.

I have visited Lille two times during the week before Christmas. It’s a nice place to explore, especially the narrow streets of Le Vieux-Lille. Not to miss is the book market in the Vieille Bourse at the Main Square, a lovely building in Flemish Renaissance style. Open every day, except Monday.

Further the Museum of Fine Arts is certainly worth a visit and if history is of interest you can visit the birthplace of Charles de Gaulle.

Have to say you must be lucky with the weather. The first time it was perfect, it was cold but the vibe was pleasant. The second time there was a strong wind with drizzling rain. In combination with low temperatures and high humidity it felt very uncomfortable. Not uncommon for places near the sea, even Lille located 80km inland the sea climate is noticable there.
